The Steve Ogden Memorial Meet LAKES ,22 -24 January 2017 Lucy is in the driving seat, The venue for next year’s “Lakes” Meet is Lake District Calvert Trust, Little Crosthwaite, Keswick (GR.234276). This is the same location where our Meet was located last year. We were all were impressed by the quality of the accommodation (en-suite rooms and good, plentiful meals), other facilities and friendliness of the staff, who couldn’t have been more helpful. The rooms are nearly all in 2 or 3 bedded rooms . There may still be vacant places, contact Lucy. Bring on the good weather.
Certificated First Aid Course. We have not run a course for the last three or so years. Is there a demand within the club for this year? We could again sponsor a First Aid course for both club members and friends. Either 1st weekend in February or in March. Let Harvey know if you are interested or which you prefer.
Spring Meet – sadly this year not enough interest – BAD NEWS!! Apologies to Rodney and Vicki.

The 46th Welsh 1000 metres Race Weekend June 2 / 3rd /4th 2017 The Race weekend is always a huge social gathering again this year we are considering changes which will improve the route and the race. Please make every effort to support us. Again the mighty organisational wheels are turning, note our website (www.welsh1000m.org) all details available, thanks to Kate and Jean, the online entries system worked perfectly last year. We are introducing some competitor/organismal change – check it out on the web site. Its only 6 months away so please get in touch if you can help; this year we will again at some considerable expense book accommodation in the Plas y Brenin Moelwyn cottage (see it on the web), so there should be no need for anyone to B&B or use a hotel. Put this date in your Diary it is an important/vital/not to be missed event. It certainly is special, and it is brilliant that we as a small informal group can put together a National sporting event of this nature, do you best to add a little to the gathering. Please let Harvey know if you want accommodation at HyG; we will transfer the overflow to Moelwyn Cottage a self-catering house as an annex to Hafod y Gwynt. Jesse will probably have accommodation too.

For those from away it will not be difficult to find a spare bed amongst Gorphwysfa members around the city – just ask!
Summer Alpine Meet July 23rd onwards? No one has fed into me any news or info of alpine trips/meets. If you have somewhere you would like to promote please let me know.
The AUTUMN Meet 2017 This year September it could be 22/23/24th. It is hoped that Andrew, the Whiz Kid organiser, will leap at the opportunity of organising another September meet, but the demand for en suite facilities from a large proportion of the club is making venues difficult. Speak to Andrew if you can offer support. Info sheet and booking form to follow. Keep this date free! Bookings to Andrew Shorter, Bay Tree House, Main Rd., Milcombe, Banbury, OX15 4RW Tel 01295 720239 email: email@example.com
Dinner Meet November 3rd/4th/5th the Venue I am sure will be the Tyn y coed! Club members only, keep the date free! As democracy rules in the Gorphwysfa, we are going to have the 12th official AGM of the club at 5 45pm on the night of the dinner at Hafod y Gwynt. The meeting will close at 6pm or earlier. Items for the agenda can be submitted now; the executive committee will consider their suitability for acceptance. Hopefully Penny and Kate will again front the dinner arrangements.
New Year Meet at hopefully Pen y Pass again 29/30/31st December This could be the occasion when we again return to Pen y Pass after a successful visit in 2016. We do need 40 plus to make it swing and bring together a jolly time for all. Please try hard to support our meets, they are the lifeblood of the club. Plenty of lively activity guaranteed, but also plenty of time for relaxation too – what about YOU for the next year? Let Harvey know if you are interested – for this meet to continue we do need club support. Watch this space for more details!
The Steve Ogden Memorial MEET LAKES 2018 The discussion has yet to take place on date and venue for the 2018 meet but I am sure that Lucy or one of her lieutenants will sort it. Perhaps again we have a three-night meet. When details are announced. …get your booking in early!
Scotland in the Spring 2018 Christine M has agreed to organise Scotland Meet 2018, and so watch this space for further details.
Nepal/the Himalayas 2017, about 29th September – 30th October. We are getting nearer to a final decision on this one. I now need strong commitments from those interested with a £50 returnable deposit. We will be booking flights in January! The early plan is to be away for at least 23 days, returning to the Khumbu area, with some members taking on the Everest Base Camp trek with a little extension, which is not to be missed. For the old and decrepit wimps an alternative will be available. Harvey will be one of these. Please get in touch with Harvey quick if you are interested. Trekking in Nepal offers huge opportunities for walking, exploring and adventure.
